really cool...go outside.

The Blood Moon rises tonight for real...due to volcanic eruptions at Mt. St. Helens tonight's Moon rises bright and coppery red ....slowly turning.... blood red.
According to folklore, October's full moon is called the "Hunter's Moon" or sometimes the "Blood Moon." It gets its name from hunters who tracked and killed their prey by autumn moonlight, stockpiling food for the winter ahead. You can picture them: silent figures padding through the forest, the moon overhead, pale as a corpse, its cold light betraying the creatures of the wood.
Hoooowwwwwwlllllllllllll....
Arrrgggh! I didn't buy the Nikon D70. I planned to review this product for Carnival of the Consumers, however, my fragmented friend Fred is shopping cameras, so I'll put my two cents worth in now. Consulting has been thin the past few months, so I balked at the price tag on the D100 and D70 and shopped down price-wise.

I regret it every time I pick up the Canon G5 I chose. While there's no disputing that the Canon takes a handsome photo with a minimum of fuss, it has one of the worst case layouts I've ever used.
The Set and Menu buttons are on the top-right back grip space, so you hit the damned things with your thumb when you handle the camera. In wide angle/close zoom mode the edge of the lens housing intrudes into viewfinder/comp window...how farging dumb is that?
Nope...can't recommend it. Get the Nikon, Fred.
This morning in my back garden a floral play unfolded in three acts. A few Water Hyacinths float in a container pond...the bamboo fountain trickles it's eternal watersong...oblivious to the scope of their tiny world...they began to bloom.

Update: Yesterday's effort was the out-of-town-tryout...a renamed, expanded show opened this morning...stay tuned for the afternoon matinee.
Yeah, I know the song...we kissed rural California goodbye 30 years ago. One can still see bits of it fleetingly from the corner of your eye...a blossoming remnant of an orchard now adrift in a sea of backyard fences and driveways....images remembered more than seen. Wait a minute. This topic was supposed to cheer me up. Shall I start again?
Take 2: The weather was absolutely wonderful yesterday...decided to take a break...my heart just wasn't in blogging ...needed some face time with nature. Afternoon was sunny and warm...spring is coming...oak buds fatting up. Decidious tree branches a bright shiny mahogany. Almond, plum and cherry trees spread lacy pink and white blossom drifts...bright yellow Mimosa blankets the hills with sweet scent.
Oh! If you see Coastal brand strawberries from Watsonville, CA in the market...buy 'em...they will only be available for a week or so. An old-fashioned variety of early berries from the Monterey area and IMO the tastiest crop of the year.
