Sweet!

Did my bit for the economy today...wove my way around the bay and through three major malls. [BTW- You may be a geezer if you refer to malls as shopping centers.] A good time and some wicked Korean BBQ was had.

I picked up a stack of bargain DVD's...mostly classics...I now have "The Thin Man" on four different media formats. No wonder the world hates us.

So There.

Guess I'll add some cat stuff. I promised myself that I shouldn't, wouldn't...too cute by half...but Dammit! I must! I shall!

Edloe is heavywight competition...will Zoe and Molly be up to the challenge? Are you paying attention? They're cats. Cats don't give a flying fuck...neither do I.

So, it's on with the cat pages!

Mystery Contrail

"Yesterday at approximately 4 p.m. (EST) North American Aerospace Defense Command received unverified reports of what appeared to be a contrail of unknown origin in the vicinity of the Turks and Caicos Islands in the Caribbean. "

My guess is an over-heated water bong.

We Are Not Worthy

THE WORLD'S largest consumer of oil, a key Saudi ally, stands on the brink of a political explosion, and possibly a civil war. Its capital increasingly is split between hostile armed camps; Democrat and Republican units are faced off against each other, hurling rotten fruit and insults, central highways are sometimes blocked by partisan pundits with hair on fire. . .

Wha?...sorry...Yawn...I dozed off mid-page. One shouldn't read mainstream newspapers after consuming a turkey sandwich and a cold lager.

We know the man is good...Instapundit defangs today's WaPo editorial from his archives.

Got dem L-Tryptophan blues

Back at the homestead...coming down off the turkey meat high...lazy today...news? Nah...haven't read the papers, surfed the uber blogs or even flipped on the radio/TV. Lileks put it perfectly yesterday. Amen brother, pass the cannoli.

The crisp quiet of a winter morning is stimulation enough. The world outside my window beckons...time to put the bits and bytes aside and take a long walk in our glorious East Bay hills, snap a few photos and listen to my interior music.

Balderdash!

MoDo was obviously in a coma during the Clinton-Gore years. Or perhaps I missed Clinton's opposition to the House Of Saud and his refusal to placate the Saudi's to insure oil flows to our good friends in Europe?

Clinton couldn't stop himself from kissing up to King Faud after it was no longer in his job description. The NYT wasn't any too happy about the cosy relationship between the Clinton WH and Saudi Arabia prior to our involvement in the Balkans either.

NYT editorial, January 2, 1996:

"Until World War II, it should be recalled, the Balkans were considered not a part of Europe but of "the Near East." The fact that the United States is more enthusiastic than its European allies about a Bosnian Muslim state reflects, among other things, the new American role as the leader of an informal collection of Muslim nations from the Persian Gulf to the Balkans. The regions once ruled by the Ottoman Turks show signs of becoming the heart of a third American empire. "

Pity Mo doesn't bother to do a zot of research or fact checking...of course that would get in the way of her agenda...it's not as if she doesn't have access to the archives of the "newspaper of record."

Tin-foil Hats Anyone?

The earth continues to quake under our feet in the Bay Area...maybe it's a right-wing cabal to unseat Nancy Pelosi...sorry about the pun...couldn't help myself. That's about as likely a scenario as the media taking it's marching orders from the RNC.

Considering that the mainstream media hangs on his every word and the massive media love-fest that he and Tipper enjoyed last week... I can't quite understand his point.

Maybe they are running short of Kool-aid and tin-foil hats over at the DNC.

The more Daschle and Gore speak the deeper the hole they dig for themselves.

Al Slips a Cog

Drudge lede: Al Gore attacks FOX NEWS, Rush Limbaugh and the WASHINGTON TIMES...He calls them a 'fifth column' in the ranks of the media, and says that the RNC uses them to inject 'daily Republican talking points' into mainstream media coverage as a whole.

Jebus...this is lifted straight from Gore Vidal's incoherent rants in the Nation circa 1986.

Al Gore isn't this bright...wonder who is pulling the levers behind the curtain.

I don't think so

Lileks hits a few nails on the head today...although I am not as confident as he that anti-Semitism is behind us.

"It’s easy to forget how anti-Semitic America has been in the past."

We seem to be educating a new generation of Jew baiters and haters and the media churns out a daily anti-Semitic sub-text.

Contact your Alumni org or campus office of giving (doncha just love the stupid euphemisms the non-profit world dreams up to tap our wallet) and advise that donations will not be forthcoming until anti-semitism on campus ceases.

The Ivory Tower twats can fulminate all they wish, but bottom line, they need our cash. As to the media, the bloggersphere has given them notice, it remains to be seen if they get it.

Credibilty Overflow

The media and Dems are sooo predictable.

CNN ran a piece on the prospective Homeland Security database this morning that was unintended satire. Bruce Mortenson didn't have a clue about databases. He quoted Al Gore as the go-to expert! Yeah I'd like to see Al set up a query formula. Big Brother scare tactics from the Left are even more laughable, given that they embrace national health care, which would be the Mother of all databases.

Just as the 53% of us who hold stocks and lost money in the stock market know the bubble burst long before the 2000 election, also know the data in local, state or federal computer systems is unreliable. Gun background check laws are mostly ineffective because the various db's and computer systems can't communicate. As the recent sniper case proves, law enforcement can't effectively track an auto license number from county to county or across state lines.

Computer users are familiar enough with the foibles of simple db programs like Lotus, Excel or Access to realize that a national db is not workable with our current level of computer technology [Read Mrs. Du Toit's excellent commentary on the subject.] The transmission of large data streams is an issue that is has not been addressed and will require a major upgrade in technology. The local service loop is mostly twisted copper pair...given the tenuous financial condition of the Telecom industry it is a safe bet they are not interested in a new last mile built-out.

A sure sign that the Dems don't have a viable plan or solution to a national problem is when they resort to scaring their base with boogey-men.

Better... but still no banana

The edits and templates seem to be working fairly well. The comment boxes are still not right, but I have a dog to walk and a ton of domestic shit to do and it's already early evening. More design work as soon as time allows. You will just have to deal with the orange comments for now. *G*

Oddly, I thought of "BLIX" as a cookie product.

Lileks has a whole 'nother take.
